Dental X-Rays

Importance of Dental X-Rays

Dental X-rays are a fundamental component of comprehensive dental evaluation that enable our dentists to thoroughly examine structures beneath the gum line and inside teeth. Taking X-rays greatly aids in diagnosing common oral health challenges, such as gum disease and tooth decay. Modern-day digital X-ray images also allow for better information sharing between our dental teams and patients.

Dental X-Ray Process

Dental X-rays are carried out with the patient seated upright in a dental chair. A lead apron is placed over the patient’s chest to protect the body from radiation. An X-ray sensor, which most patients find non-invasive and painless, is then positioned in the mouth, focusing on the area of interest. We can then take X-rays adjusting the sensor as needed.

Benefits of Dental X-Rays

  • SafetyDental X-rays are safe and expose you to less radiation than cooking with natural gas or flying on a flight longer than an hour.
  • DiagnosisDental X-rays greatly improve patient care by giving our dentists the ability to assess the health of a patient’s gums and the inside of their teeth. This information can help our dentists diagnose a wide array of oral health concerns such as tooth decay, periodontal disease, loss of bone density.
  • Faster Results: Modern dental X-rays enable dentists to immediately examine the images on a computer monitor.
