Gum Disease

Gum disease is a bacterial infection involving the gums and sometimes the bone that surrounds a tooth. Gum disease can affect one tooth or multiple teeth and is an indication that you are not taking care of your oral hygiene. Gingivitis and Periodontitis are two different stages of gum disease.

Gingivitis: Gingivitis is the first indication of gum disease. It is characterized by redness and swelling of the gums. With this condition, the gums can bleed easily when you brush your teeth. Gingivitis is easily treatable and does not cause any bone loss or tissue loss.

Periodontitis: This is a more severe type of gum disease. Some indication that you might have periodontitis are continued red, swollen, or bleeding gums, pain when chewing, poor tooth alignment, receding gums or pockets between the teeth and gums, sores on the inside of the mouth, and loose or sensitive teeth. This type of gum disease must be treated by your dentist.
Gum disease symptoms include:

• Pain
• Swelling gums
• Bad breath and unpleasant taste in the mouth
• Bleeding
• Loose teeth
• Sensitivity in teeth
If you experience any of these symptoms, contact our dentists at Your Dentistry Dental care  for a complete check-up and timely treatment.
